CONSIDERATIONS WHEN PURCHASING WOOD RESTAURANT CHAIRS

Wood Restaurant Seating

Style and size are critical when choosing dining furniture for your establishment. This is especially true when it comes to wood restaurant chairs. Wood restaurant chairs need to fit the venue’s design and offer comfort for your customer.

There are other considerations as well that should enter into the decision, specifically, what kind of wood is used and how it is finished. These details affect the seating’s appearance, durability and useful life.

CHOOSING WOOD SPECIES

The wood species used is important when it comes to the strength and maintenance of wood restaurant chairs. The hardness of the wood will be a key factor in the chair or stools service and durability. Softer woods not only can scratch and dent but also, joints and hardware can loosen easier. Pines, Cherries and Rubberwoods are softer woods than Birch, Maple, and Oak.

If you need to know the hardness of a particular species, you can refer to the Janko Scale for wood hardness.

THE FINISH-ING TOUCH

Another key feature when looking at wood is the finish and how it is applied. The finish can just be a clear finish to accent the base wood’s color and grain, or it can be a shade or stain that mimics another species of wood. (a dark Mahogany stain can be applied to a Maple wood for instance.). Cheaper polyurethane finishes that are sprayed on do not hold up as well as varnishes or catalyzed lacquers that are applied by dipping or hand rubbing. A catalyzed lacquer is applied in thin layers that bond to the wood forming a stronger finish while still emphasizing the wood’s natural grains.

A European Beechwood frame with a catalyzed lacquer finish like the Columbia Series, Berkley Series, or Stockton Series offered by BFM Seating can provide a durable, stylish restaurant chair or stool that will provide years of service.
