How are your table tops holding up?
Of all the surfaces in a food service establishment, none see the where and tear of a table top. Constant cleaning and sanitizing with caustic chemicals, regular abrasions from dinner and glassware, as well as patron clothing and jewelry, can really take a toll on your table tops. A good quality commercial table top can last 10 years, but can start looking ragged by the 7th or 8th year mark. Even if the surface is still functional, the finish color or design can get outdated (in solid wood and wood like finishes, the Mahogany finish that dominated the â90âs is now passĂ©, replaced by walnut tones).
Fortunately, if your tops could use an updating, you have options:
If considering new tops, donât discount laminates as being âcheapâ. Laminate manufacturers have improved their product to where many are easily mistaken for natural products. Laminates are more durable than wood and have the added benefit of being less expensive.
If youâre looking at replacing your tops, consider if you want to use your existing table bases and, if so, make certain they will work with the new product.
Changing the finish or style of your table tops can provide a quick and profound refresh of your dining room.
Bon appétit!
